An Abertay University Law student came through a field of 2,000 applicants to be awarded a sponsor prize in the closing stages of a national competition.
Third-year student Malcom Marshall entered the British Inter University Commercial Awareness Competition (BIUCAC), which is designed to expose the UK鈥檚 top law firms to students to a wider range of talent from across the UK鈥檚 universities.
The competition is aimed at students from modern universities offering law degrees, like Abertay, which make up 82% of the UK university market.
More than 2,000 initial applicants took part in the competition online, before the number was whittled down and entrants were put through their paces with an online interview at a top London law firm.
The finalists then travelled to London for a face-to-face interview, where Malcom was awarded a 拢500 prize from firm Hogan Lovells and received a one-to-one coaching session with the the company鈥檚 graduate recruitment team.
Malcom was gifted a series of books by lawyer and author Christopher Stoakes and had the chance to meet the author in-person.
Malcom said: 鈥淭aking part in BIUCAC has boosted my confidence and given me the opportunity to network with peers at other universities and industry professionals.
鈥淭o have my efforts in the competition recognised by Hogan Lovells was fantastic and the award will help support my studies in my fourth year.
鈥淚鈥檇 recommend getting involved in BIUCAC to any law students who want a chance to showcase what they can offer to the industry.鈥
Dr Michelle Weldon-Johns, Senior Lecturer in LLB(Hons) Law added: 鈥淓veryone in the Division of Law is thrilled Malcom made it so far in BIUCAC.
鈥淚t鈥檚 so important students from smaller institutions like Abertay get the chance to shine in front of a national audience.
鈥淚鈥檇 like to congratulate Malcom again on his prize win and look forward to following his career through fourth year and beyond.鈥
