"My degree has been massively helpful. I wouldn’t have got my job without it."Alison Chapman | Special Education Teacher | Al Karamah School, Abu Dhabi.
My degree has been massively helpful. I wouldn鈥檛 have got my job abroad without it. I loved university. I鈥檓 a very sociable person and I was part of the football and hockey teams. They had a massive influence on me and increased my interest in sport. The lecturers were also very friendly.
I ended up working in the United Arab Emirates from talking with another Abertay student who suggested the job to me! We both worked at the same summer camp in America for kids with disabilities and he said I might be interested in it.聽I鈥檇 spent four days in Abu Dhabi on my way to Thailand but it wasn鈥檛 somewhere I鈥檇 thought I鈥檇 ever live, but I love it. Being away from home wasn鈥檛 hard as I鈥檇 spent a lot of time travelling. The culture was more of a challenge. I didn鈥檛 really think about it until I arrived and at first it was difficult. Once you get settled though it isn鈥檛 as different as people make it out to be. As long as you鈥檙e understanding of local beliefs, people there are very understanding of you.
Eventually I want to come home and do a postgrad in teaching.
